چکیده

A simple ultraviolet method has been developed for determining serum or plasma cholinesterase activity. The cholinesterase acts on acetylor butyrylthiocholine to release thiocholine, which reacts with 2,2’or 4,4’-dithiodipyridine, showing absorbance at 324 or 343 nm, respectively. The activity can be measured kinetically and alsoafter incubation for 3 to 5 mm at 20#{176} to 37#{176}C. A volume of 10l of serum or plasma is sufficient for the determination. This method is well suited for clinical investigation as well as experimental studies.

Micromethod for estimating adenosine deaminase activity in dried blood spots on filter paper.

We describe a fluorometric micromethod for measuring adenosine deaminase activity in dried blood spots on filter paper. Earlier methods require venipuncture and preparation of washed erythrocytes; in the present method, whole capillary blood, spotted on filter paper and mailed (dried) to a central laboratory, is used. The stability of the enzyme in dried blood on filter paper was assessed. The ...

Reduced Levels of Serum Potassium and Plasma Cholinesterase in Acute Organophosphate Poisoning: Possible Predictive Markers

Background: It is becoming apparent that although inhibition of cholinesterase plays a key role in organophosphate (OP) toxicity, other factors are also important. One of the contributing factors for severity of OP poisoning is electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia. This study was aimed at evaluating the value of hypokalemia in association with plasma cholinesterase (PChE) levels in predic...

Plasma cholinesterase activity in children with infective endocarditis

Methods Our study included six patients with acquired infection from central catheter; the microbial pathogens were Streptococcus viridans (n = 3) and Staphyloccocus aureus (n = 3). The diagnosis of IE was based on positive blood culture (2 positive cultures of blood samples drawn > 12 hours), evidence of endocardial involvement (positive ECHO), measuring raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate a...

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SUCCINYLCHOLINEINDUCED APNEA AND DIBUCAINE NUMBER IN PATIENTS WITH GENETIC DEFICIENCY OF PLASMA CHOLINESTERASE

In this study, a commercially available kit in which propionylthiocholine is used as a substrate and a dibucaine solution to determine the variants of the enzyme were utilized. Plasma cholinesterase activity of 151 patients who underwent different operations was measured during a period of six months. The mean±SD of the enzyme activity in 150 patients was 4.39±1.17 kU/L .. Seventeen patie...

Calorimetry of cholinesterase activity in serum.

Cholinesterase activity in human serum was measured calorimetrically and compared to values obtained with the spectrophotometric method of Rappaport et al. [Clin. Chim. Acta 4, 227 (1959)]. The response of the calorimeter upon mixing serum with acetylcholine corresponded to the cholinesterase activity of the serum, the thermogram peak height being linearly related to enzyme activity at serum di...
